GHOST TRAIN THROUGH THE FREESTATE
An old forgotten ghost train through the free state
Won’t deviate or change its former line
From Bethelehem and down into the mountains
No-one’s waiting but the driver runs on time
You see Harrismith has fallen from its grace
A man can’t even find a place to eat
It seems they’re only selling empty houses
The agencies dividing up the streets

But you know that there were people here
You know that there were people here…
You know that there were people not just silos and steeples
You know that there were people here…

So you drive away in silent disbelief boy
And you figure that with time you’ll understand
And then you start to realise you’re only dreaming
When you see the broken signs in Ladybrand
But you keep on heading west and you’re still hopeful
And the ghost train keeps a vigil by your side
And you pass through towns and places you’ve forgotten
And some others that you’ve never even tried

In Rouxville they sell petrol with a name you’ve never heard
But at least there’s someone there to fill you up
And you drain another tank as you seek the people out

And Colesberg lies ahead of you just waiting…
Waiting and praying for the rain
And you just out there waiting for the train….
